Gala Banquet | Jan. 18 | Victoria Conference Centre

Don’t miss your chance to attend an unforgettable evening of great conversation and awesome stories with fellow fans, players and legends at the Gala Banquet on Thursday, Jan. 18. Tickets available in pairs or tables of ten.

Locally sponsored by the Fairmont Empress, the Gala Banquet is at the Victoria Conference Centre. During the gala, there will be a silent auction, with all proceeds goingt owards the Courtnall Society for Mental Health. The dress code is “Jersey Formal.” Combine your formal wear with your favourite team jersey, or dress up in your favourite smart-casual or business-casual attire.

Celebrity and Alumni Classic | Jan. 19 | Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre

You know the atmosphere is going to be phenomenal with this lineup of popular voices and past superstars of hockey, including Sportsnet’s Ron MacLean, Kevin Bieksa and Elliotte Friedman, as well as past Wendel Clark, Cassie Campbell-Pascall, Lanny McDonald, Darcy Tucker, Kirk McLean, Nathan Lafayette, Fin, Brian Burke and Greg Adams.

The Alumni Classic on Jan. 19 promises plenty of fun on the ice with more than a few twists to keep the entertainment level high. This is always a popular event so make sure to secure seats for you, your family and friends. Tickets also make great stocking stuffers ahead of the holidays!

Wear your favourite jersey and help show the rest of Canada how Victoria celebrates hockey. The game, locally sponsored by FortisBC, starts at 7:30 pm, Jan.20, at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

Sign up now to play in the Inner Harbour during the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada Festival

The schedule of events for Jan. 17-20 has been posted to our website. There are hockey displays, special clinics to give your game an edge and tournaments for those who accept the challenge. Special facilities will be set up in the Inner Harbour for these activities, including hockey clinics put on by BC Hockey on an outdoor skating rink, and a festival at Ship Point.

To participate, minor hockey players will be getting info directly from the minor hockey association they are registered with.

And for those not affiliated with an organization, there are plenty of other opportunities to play ball hockey. Check out these activities that still have space for the general public:

Ball Hockey

The Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey Association is offering a 3v3 tournament for players age 10-18 of all skill levels. Register at gvmbha.com.

NHL Street

Street Hockey is open for registrations for kids 6-10 years of age through VicPD.

To register, visit nhlstreetvictoria.ca. CFAX Santas Anonymous has generously come forward with a donation to ensure that kids who do not have their own equipment will be able to participate. If you would like to be part of NHL Street Victoria but are concerned about the cost, please email nhlstreetvictoria@vicpd.ca.

Volunteer registration officially underway

An event like Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada requires plenty of help from volunteers. If you’re interested in lending a hand during the week of the festival, please complete the form on our website and download the application.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved. The following skills or knowledge will be especially useful to the event:

  • First Aid
  • Willing to work outside
  • Able to lift 50 lbs

Puck drop marks official countdown to festival

A ceremonial puck drop at a Victoria Royals game on Nov. 17 marked the official countdown to Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada in Victoria. Representatives from Scotiabank, Destination Greater Victoria, City of Victoria and Victoria Hockey Legacy Society were at centre ice for the exciting moment.

The WHL action featured the Royals against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at Save-on-Foods-Memorial Centre. During the game, commemorative Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada merchandise was available at the Royals gift shop. Check out the online store to find a perfect gift for the holidays!
